The PodCastle project creates didactic experiences for primary school children linked to a castle as an element of cultural heritage. This becomes the focus of research with children, providing them knowledge of architecture, lifestyle, arts and other relevant cultural aspects of the time when the castle was inhabited. As an important factor, the castle acts as a mirror in which children with migrant backgrounds can reflect their own culture, by reporting and sharing information on the features of castles (or other meaningful architecture), lifestyle, arts, typical jobs and more, related to their country, during the same historical period.
The whole process provides for a multicultural, multidisciplinary and inclusive learning experience for all children.
The partners will work together to reach common goals and to experiment together with digital tools developing familiarization with digital technologies for learning. In fact, during the project, facilitated by the partners organizations’ staff and with the presence of their teachers, the pupils will create podcasts around the story of the castle and the multicultural elements provided by the migrant children’s culture.
The podcasts will be featured on the online project educational platform.
To make the experience more transferable to other local, national and European teachers, the partners will prepare the ‘PodCastle Step-by-step Guide for Teachers’: a tool for autonomous use by teachers and by all those with an interest in exploiting a castle in their region for children’s learning and inclusion. Construction materials of the castles will be discussed as a starting point to develop green education, thus explaining sustainable eco-materials and environmental issues. Some hints will be given to make children think about what can be done to have a greener lifestyle.
